Camera and Display

The New Moto G now sports an 8 MP primary sensor but the improvement is picture quality isn’t much. It is in no way a bad camera and now you get more Megapixels as well, but in our initial hands on review, we didn’t find it to excel Xiaomi Redmi 1S, which on the other hand has an 8 MP Sony Exmor Sensor with large 1.4 micrometer pixels for better low light performance. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S can also record 1080p full HD videos, while with Moto G2, 720p HD is the limit. The display on both smartphones is very pleasing. Xiaomi Redmi 1S features a 4.7 Inch SHARP IPS LCD panel while the Moto G flaunts a slightly bigger 5 Inch HD display panel which is rich in colors with ample brightness, you can’t go wrong with either displays.

Processor and Internal Storage

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S features 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC while Moto G has less clock speed 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 quad core. Both processors are joined by 1 GB RAM, and if we compare the performance of Moto G 2013 with redmi 1S, we find Moto G to be slightly smoother and stable. We can expect the new Moto G to show similar performance with light and well optimized almost stock Android on board, instead of slightly heavy MIUI. Internal storage on Redmi 1S is 8 GB and you have option for 32 GB of MicroSD card support. Moto G Dual SIM on the other hand will feature 16 GB onboard storage along with 32 GB MicroSD card support. Heavy users can value Moto G over Redmi 1S as Apps can’t be transferred to SD card.

Battery and Other Features

Battery performance on Redmi 1S is good but not great. It features a 2000 mAh batter which can carry moderate users with 1 day of usage. While it’s too early to judge new Moto G just yet, we don’t expect it to be lie behind Redmi 1S in this segment. Moto G runs on latest Android 4.4.4 Kitkat with guaranteed update to Andorid L – a big advantage. Redmi 1S on the other hand doesn’t come with not so dated Android 4.3 Jelly bean with feature rich MIUI on top. Which one you like, will depend on your taste. Moto G has a distinct advantage as far as build quality goes. It has an amazing design with dual frontal speakers which will provide ample loudness and constitute for another major advantage against Redmi 1S mono speaker housed at the rear side.

Key Specs

Conclusion

Xiaomi claims that Redmi 1S is one of the best smartphones that you can find under 15K and perhaps the competition is justified. Redmi 1S however cost less than 50% of Moto G and the low price is one of the most important specification for many. Moto G should be a better option if higher price isn’t an issue and in case you are looking for something in lesser price budget, go and buy a Redmi 1S without second thought. (Ofcourse you need oodles of fortune on your side to buy it)
