The Wireless Power Consortium makes the Qi wireless charging standard. With the addition to it as a member, Xiaomi is on the same list as Apple, Samsung and other large smartphone makers. With Qi wireless standard included, we may see Xiaomi offering wireless charging on the Mi 7, which is expected to be their next flagship.

Founded in 2008, the Wireless Power Consortium is a group of manufacturers which is work around the Qi Standard for wireless charging. The good part here is that Qi standard is being worked upon and developed by leading companies in mobile manufacturing together. With just 8 companies attending its inaugural in 2008, it now has over 240 companies as members today with 760+ products using Qi Standard. Some of the big members of WPC include Apple Inc, Nokia, Panasonic, AirCharge, Samsung, HTC, and Texas Instruments. Xiaomi is the latest addition to the Wireless Power Consortium and with this addition, we can safely say that their next flagship will feature wireless charging. Since Xiaomi has been aggressive in its marketing strategy, it will be no surprise to see the Chinese manufacturer catching up with Apple and Samsung.
Xiaomi Mi 7 Rumoured Specifications
Expected to be the next flagship device from Xiaomi, the Xiaomi Mi 7 is expected to arrive next year in the first quarter. It is rumoured to come with a Glass and Ceramic design. The device is expected to pack a dual camera setup along with a 6-inch AMOLED panel with full HD resolution. In terms of hardware, the Xiaomi Mi 7 may be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor (unannounced) along with two RAM variants i.e. 6GB and 8GB RAM. That said, the latest addition to the rumours is Wireless Charging as Xiaomi is now a member of the WPC, enabling it to use the Qi standard of wireless charging.
