Camera and Storage: The Oppo Neo gets a 5MP rear camera with autofocus but the same lacks flash. It joins hands with a 2MP front camera for video calling. The smartphone could have done better with a 8MP snapper with flash but the Oppo offering disappoints in this regard. The device gets 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded by a microSD card by another 32GB. The internal memory seems a bit less and 8GB would have been welcome instead. Processor and Battery: The Oppo Neo gets a 1.3 GHz dual core processor which teams up with a 512MB RAM. The smartphone is pretty underpowered in the processing and multitasking department and it pretty much disappoints the users. We would have liked to see a quad core processor instead with a 1GB RAM. It gets a 1,900 mAh battery and this is pretty much what you get in this price range so we wouldn’t say that we are disappointed in this regard but a bigger battery would have been welcome. Display and Features: The Oppo Neo features a 5 inch display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. Most of the smartphones in this price range feature a 720p display so you’d be better off looking elsewhere if sharp displays are your thing. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which is similar to what every device in this price range features barring the Moto G and Xolo Q1100 which feature Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. We highly doubt if the same will be upgraded in future. It features gesture controls such as double tap to wake up and you can set your own gesture controls as well. Looks and Connectivity: It gets 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for connectivity and the smartphone gets all that you can ask for in the connectivity in this price range. It can be operated using gloves and weighs 130 grams. It is 9.2mm thick and features a good build quality. It has nothing that sets it apart from the rest but it has nothing that it misses out on either. Comparison: It prime competitor will be Moto G which is way better than it in every department. Other devices like Huawei Ascend D1 and Xolo Q1000 pose as better alternatives as well.
Key Specs
Conclusion: The Oppo Neo comes across as a smartphone that would have done better in the sub Rs 8,000 arena. You can get way better devices in the same price range and if you shed a couple of grand more, you could always but the Moto G. Oppo seems to have missed the mark on this one.
