Nokia 3310 (2017) Pros
First, let’s start with the good things about the brand new feature phone:
Fan Appeal
This is the most important aspect of the Nokia 3310 (2017). It is one of the most popular mobiles in the world. The original phone sold more than 126 million units. Even now, there are a lot of active and functioning Nokia 3310 devices.
Battery Life
The first Nokia 3310 is still famous for its extended battery life. It can last days without charging with the 900mAh battery. The latest iteration comes with an even larger 1200mAh battery. Nokia claims that the new generation mobile has a standby time of as many as 31 days. This is spectacular in comparison to the power-hungry
Colored Polarized Display
The old Nokia 3310 came with a black and white screen. However, the latest model rocks a 2.4-inch colored polarized panel. The display looks quite good and sports excellent sunlight legibility.
Snake Game
How can we forget the famous snake game pre-installed on the older Nokia 3310. Yes, the new generation device also comes with it. However, the game is a bit modified, and we missed the charm of the original one.
Camera
The first Nokia 3310 did not have a camera. But, the new one has got one. The image quality is not bad either considering that the megapixel count is merely 2 MP. Of course, it does not stand a chance against the current generation smartphones.
Dual SIM and SD Card Support
While the older one only had a single SIM card slot, the Nokia 3310 (2017) can take in two SIM cards as well as a micro SD card. This is a notable upgrade indeed! The new generation device also has a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Price
With a launch price of EUR 49, the Nokia 3310 (2017) is going to cost between Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 3,900 in India. Even though this is not cheap by any means, it is somewhat lower than the price of an average smartphone.
Nokia 3310 (2017) Cons
Now we come to the disadvantages of the new generation feature phone:
Little Storage
The Nokia 3310 (2017) comes with just 16 MB internal storage. This is impeccably low considering we live in an age of Terabyte memory cards. Buying a micro SD card is a must if you are getting a new Nokia 3310.
Small Display
While the 2.4-inch display is larger than the 17-year old Nokia 3310, it is still pretty small in today’s world. As 5.5-inch is gradually becoming a norm, the screen of Nokia 3310 (2017) is simply too tiny.
No 3G/4G or VoLTE
This is one of the major cons of the new Nokia feature phone. It only supports 2G networks. This drastically reduces the usability of the device. The phone would have been great if HMD Global had added 3G and 4G along with VoLTE. The latter would have inevitably turned it into a best seller in India alongside Reliance Jio.
Older Bluetooth Version
The use of Bluetooth 3.0 in the Nokia 3310 (2017) is just not acceptable. At least the Bluetooth 4.0 could have been added without any difficulty. The older generation Bluetooth is not only slower but also less power efficient than its new iteration.
Conclusion
After reading the above points, you might have already made your decision. The Nokia 3310 (2017) has its own set of pros as well as cons. However, if HMD Global added some more features like VoLTE, then the phone would have scored some seriously good sales figure.
