Camera and Internal Storage

This phone provides a 12 MP auto focus camera at the back with LED flash (Which appears like a dual LED flash in pictures. According to what we have seen so far in Micromax devices like Canvas 4 and Canvas HD, We expect this camera to perform pretty well in proper lighting condition. Canvas 4 camera shows some noise in low light shots but can still be considered better than what most domestic manufacturers offer. The secondary camera is of 2 MP and can be used for video calling. The camera specs will give this phone a huge marketing advantage as most manufacturers are offering a 8 MP camera at this price range. Although as is implied from the last paragraph, camera optics is much more than MP count. The Internal storage of this device is 4 GB which is not exciting. How much of it will be available at the users end has not yet been specified. If Micromax had provided with 8 GB of internal storage it would have made this device more attractive. You can extend the storage to 32 GB using microSD card.

Processor and Battery

This phone is powered by MT6589T Quad core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and comes with PowerVR SGX544 MP GPU clocked at 357 MHz. The processor will provide some processing advantage over MT6589 Chipset, but will provide a huge marketing boost to this device. Will 0.3 GHz be a significant noticeable change in performance? The answer is at 720p display it will but it will also tax your battery more. 2000 mAh Battery is same as what we have seen in most Canvas series devices and this phone is no exception. The battery is expected to carry you through the day with moderate usage.

Display and Feature

The display is 5 Inches in size which is the most popular display size seen in most Canvas series phones and also in High end phones from Tier-one manufacturers. The display resolution is 720p HD with 16.7 million colors which is more than 16 M which we see in most which is above average in this price range. The phone runs on Android 4.2 operating system and the phone features dual SIM functionality like all other Canvas series devices. We expect Micromax to provide gesture features like blow air to unlock, video pinning, easy answer etc. in this phone too.

Looks and Connectivity

The phone does learn a lesson or two from Micromax Canvas 4 in terms of design language. The device stands apart from rest of the Canvas series phones including  Micromax Canvas 2 A110. The back cover looks metallic and has a closer resemblance to doodle 2’s back door which was not removable. Connectivity features include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack and MicroUSB port.

Comparison

The phone is probably the only MT6589T device in the price range of 15,000 INR, and will compete against phones like Wammy Passion Z+, 1.5 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad core phone Xolo Play T1000 and Gionee Elife E5. It is also expected to make a dent in sale of phones like Sony Xperia C and HTC Desire 500.

Key Specs

Conclusion

This phone comes with commendable chipset specifications and camera features and as it is loaded with stock Android and 720 p processor we expect it to be faster than other canvas series devices available so far. Micromax Canvas 4 is another option priced at Rs. 1500 more which will give you better internal storage of 16 GB out of which 10 GB will be available at the users end. The phone offers something different and better in a price range where every one is offering the same hardware features.
