The Android One program provides OEM’s with hardware reference design to manufacture devices in close co-operation with Google. Google will control the software and will provide with latest software updates to these budget devices, and this can bring about a significant change.

ET report also stated that, Google will be spending a whooping 100 crore on promotional campaigns for this new project. While Celkon has closed the deal with Google, Intex is still working on it. Also, HTC is also planning on joining Google Android One program, which will definitely help it in its revival strategy. “With Android One, we are planning to introduce devices that are 20-30% cheaper than earlier products,” said Celkon executive director Murali Retineni. Budget Android segment is already very competitive with phones like Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Moto E have already risen more than a few eyebrows and Android One program will further improve things for the consumers.
